Come check out these titles for great games to play on New Year's Eve!

Great Sections for New Year's Eve Games

For any adults looking to have fun this New Year's Eve, the games in our 18 years-old and up section are great for a party or get-together with friends.

Check out these great party games! These are perfect for large groups, looking to celebrate the New Year.

For those who enjoy word games and story games, come check some of these titles out. We have classic word games as well as some modern titles that are sure to bring everyone together.

We also have a whole section dedicated to hidden identity and social deduction games that are great for gatherings of all sizes.

New Year's Eve Game Highlights

The following is a list of games that are great for all sorts of parties and get-togethers and would work great for ringing in the New Year.

Bards Dispense Profanity

This fun and interesting take on the Cards Against Humanity-style from our 18 and up games uses modern questions and fill-in-the-blank statements but with responses directly quoted from the works of Shakespeare. While it was not necessarily intended to be combined with the base game of Cards Against Humanity, it is a really fun combination. This game is easy-to-learn and great for parties.

Point Salad

Point Salad is a fun and fast set collection, drafting, and card combination game for 2-6 players looking to stack some veggies this New Year's Eve. The game requires just enough strategy to stay interesting, while providing players with easy-to-jump-into mechanics that make this game a hit.

Exploding Kittens

Exploding Kittens is a raucous and hilarious game of hot potato in which 2-5 players attempt to stave off drawing an exploding kitten. They may do so by playing cards that allow them to defuse an exploding kitten, to re-position an exploding kitten inside the deck, or even pass the kitten off to the next player. I have played this game at several parties and always enjoyed it.

Happy Salmon

Happy Salmon is a fun and fast game in which 3-6 players (or even up to 12 players with both the green and blue salmons) call out the actions on their cards. If someone else calls out the same action, then both players must perform that action and discard those cards. The first person to discard all of their cards wins. However, there are no turns. Everyone is calling out actions simultaneously and has to listen up for the actions being called if they want to find a match and start discarding.

Yikerz!

Yikerz! is a fun magnet game in which one or more players receives an equal stack of magnets and has to lay them out on the mats. The first player to put down all their magnets wins, but they have to be careful. If a player puts down a magnet that zaps other magnets onto it, then they have to add all of the collected magnets back to their stack. This fun, push-your-luck game is fantastic and a great game for bringing everyone together.

Anomia

For those who prefer trivia games, Anomia is a go-to classic for 3-6 players. Anomia involves all the random knowledge that is constantly going around our brains. In the game, a player draws and reveals a card. If the card they draw has a symbol matching another player's card, then that player must quickly face-off against the other player, naming a person, place, or thing associated with the card's category. Whoever manages to blurt out a correct answer first wins their opponents card.

Letter Jam

Letter Jam is a co-op word game for 2-6 players in which players receive a set of face down letters. Each player puts a face down letter in front of them on a stand that faces away from their sight. No one should see their own letter. A player's current letter should only be visible to other players. Each turn players work together to form the longest word possible from the visible letter. Whoever comes up with the longest possible word from the letters available becomes the clue-giver and is tasked with assisting the current player. This is a fun, tricky word game that can bring everyone together and is sure to be a blast. We already posted about Letter Jam when it originally came to our store, but I felt it was worth highlighting as a word game of choice for larger gatherings.

Someone Has Died

Someone Has Died is both silly and macabre in the best ways possible. In this story-telling game, 3-6 players each vie for their right to someone's stuff post-death. The setting is at a will arbitration and each player receives a few different cards that help them to form their character's backstory, identity, and personality. One player takes the role of Estate Keeper who gets to establish the deceased's background and gets to decided who argues best. This is a good party game for those with a macabre sense of humor.

One Night Ultimate Werewolf

One Night Ultimate Werewolf is a hidden identity and social deduction game that will liven up any party. It's one of my personal favorites for large gatherings and is a great way to ring in the New Year. The game takes place over the course of one night and players must try to suss out who among them are the werewolves.

Schummel Hummel

To win Schummel Hummel, you must get rid of your cards before any other player, and unlike in most other games, you can cheat to dump cards from your hand. Toss them over your shoulder, hide them in your shirt! One of the players represents the watchman, though, and if they catch you cheating, then you have to both keep your original card and take one of the watchman's as well, while also taking on the role of the watchman. This game is a great way to enjoy your New Year's celebrations with 3-5 friends.

Great Games for both Kids and Adults

The following are some highlights from our kids' section that are enjoyable for both children and grown-ups alike.

Battle Sheep

In Battle Sheep (first released as Splits), players from ages 7 and up start the game by constructing the board from identical four-hex tiles, then each player places his/her tall stack of discs on one of the border hexes. Players take turns removing some number of discs from the top of one of their stacks, moving that new stack of discs as far away as it can go in a straight line. Players must leave at least one disc behind when moving, so the board gradually fills up and movement opportunities become more and more scarce. The player occupying the most spaces at the end of the game wins!

Who Did It?

Who Did It? is the ultimate blame game in which 3-6 players attempt to divert blame from their animals onto other animals for who did it. But if a player attempts to blame an animal who has already been absolved then they are caught in a lie and stuck with the blame. This silly party game is perfect for an evening of light-hearted fun, while also being accessible for any kids celebrating the New Year.

 Spot It Classic

Spot It! is a game of spotting matching symbols between different cards. The game can be played with 2-8 players and is fast, fun, and simple. This is a great family game for New Year's Eve that will keep everyone entertained.

If you're looking for a game to play as the ball drops this year, then come on down and check these titles out or get a personal recommendation from one of our staffers.

What's New at Labyrinth 12/06/2019

Come check out what's new at Labyrinth!

Nanty Narking

This is an exciting sort-of-reprint from Martin Wallace, who has also worked on such beloved games as Brass Birmingham and Brass Lancashire. When I say sort-of-reprint, I am referring to the fact that Nanty Narking is Wallace's new spin on the same mechanics found in Discworld: Ankh-Morpork. However, Nanty Narking has a wonderful and interesting theme of its own. Set in the Victorian Era of London, Nanty Narking features many beautifully illustrated cards that act as the main way players take actions in the game, and it also features several cards with illustrations of both fictional characters and events from the works of Arthur Conan Doyle and Charles Dickens as well as  real historical figures of the time period. It is an easy-to-learn game with lots of possibilities for strategy and it also features a plethora of gorgeous, stylized miniatures.

First Contact

First Contact is a unique party game for 3-7 in which players are divided into either humans/earthlings or aliens. The humans seek to learn new alien words, while the aliens seek to collect souvenirs from earth. Each human has an individual privacy screen, while the aliens have one shared privacy screen. The aliens have a new language pad every game, so that the same symbol won't mean the same thing from game to game, adding replay value. The aliens use their symbol set to communicate which items they want, while the humans try to offer the correct items. The game is competitive and not team-based, so that one individual alien or human will be the winner.

Bus

Splotter Spellen's Bus is now at Labyrinth! Bus is a route-building game in which 3-5 players compete for customers as they each build their own public transit lines. Players will build out their bus lines, while also building out the city's layout either to their benefit (i.e., buildings the bring in more customers) or to their opponents' detriment (i.e., buildings that lead to a scarcity of customers on their routes). It is a medium to heavy-weight worker placement, route-building, and pick-up/drop-off game.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Yugi's Legendary Decks

Yugi's Legendary Decks is here and features three 41-card decks as well as three secret rare cards, three ultra rare Egyptian God cards (non-playable; collecting only), and four ultra rare commemorative cards (also for collecting only).

Yu-gi-Oh! Chaos Impact Special Edition boxes are here! Each pack includes three Chaos Impact booster packs, 1 of 2 super rare Link Monster variant cards, 1 of 2 super rare variants of non-foil cards from the Ignition Assault booster set.

Yu-Gi-Oh Speed Duel: Trials of the Kingdom

We now have Yu-Gi-Oh Speed Duel: Trials of the Kingdom booster packs and booster boxes!

Maracaibo

Maracaibo, the new strategy game for 1-4 players by Alexander Pfister, is set in the Caribbean during the 17th century. The players try to increase their influence in three nations in four rounds with a play time of 40 minutes per player. The players sail on a round course through the Caribbean. E.g., you have city tiles where you are able to perform various actions or deliver goods to. One special feature is an implemented quest mode over more and various tiles, which tells the player, who chase after it, a little story. As a player, you move with your ship around the course, managing it by using cards like in other games from Alexander Pfister.

Cooper Island

In the age of exploration the players arrive at a new home far away from their homeland. They try to colonize the big island and each player tries to explore one part of it by placing landscape tiles. Landscape tiles grant resources and those are used to erect buildings with special abilities. Barriers on the island have to be removed in order to explore the island even further. Players build valuable statues and supply ships get them the supplies from the old world they need to be a successful settler on Cooper Island. The special thing about Cooper Island is the way the players mark their victory points. They take small ship markers around the island to show their progress. On their way around the island they find smaller islands inshore that grant valuable benefits. After five rounds, a game of Cooper Island ends and the player who developed the best and went on furthest with their ships will win.

The Crystal Palace

In Crystal Palace, players take on the role of a nation at the time of the first World Fair in London (1851), trying to create a buzz with spectacular inventions and the support of famous and powerful people. Crystal Palace is a dice-placement game in which the players themselves determine the stats of their dice at the beginning of each round. The higher the number, the better — but it comes at a price. In the course of the game, dice are placed on eight action locations (Patent Office, Reform Club, London Times, Port of London, Waterloo Station, British Museum, Bank of England, Westminster) in a competition for the best resources, patents, and brains. In a world of slightly weird inventions, you will meet people like Phileas Fogg, Levi Strauss and Amelia Edwards, and invent gadgets such as the Thinking machine, the Beer glass counter or the Climate changer.

As time passes, both the tomb and its guardians will change. Ferocious battles are fought and won, and the skeletons slowly remember who and what they once were. Melancholy, introspective and spanning epochs, The Skeletons is unlike anything you’ve ever played.
