New Arrivals 6/22/2015 to 6/28/2015

by Alexander "La Lucha" Smith

Navigate a labyrinthine dungeon, collect coins, evade the lurking dragon and be the first to escape in the latest edition of Drakon. Each turn you will have to decide whether to venture into another chamber of the dungeon or place down a new tile. Building the dungeon has its advantages; you can place traps near your enemies and beneficial rooms closer to yourself. You can't wait around too long though, because the dragon is hungry and her dungeon is full of dinner.

Torchbearer is an RPG in which you take on the role of a hard-on-your-luck adventurer pressed into danger out of necessity. In your adventures, you'll emerge battered and bruised from exploring old ruins, and...and...fighting dragons? You must be insane! Torchbearer isn't a game where heroes of superhuman ability rove the land in search for adventure, but rather it is a medium for telling stories of loss, weakness, cowardice, and the miracle of making it through another day filled with danger. If you're looking for something different, give this roleplaying system a try.

Speaking of roleplaying games that are a bit out of the ordinary, World Wide Wrestling is another cool new book we just got in. Like a soap-opera but with much more violence, you get to tell stories about corrupt managers, grizzled industry veterans, and brand new superstars rising through the ranks and going toe to toe with other fierce fighters. Got what it takes to step into the ring? Prove it in World Wide Wrestling!

Anyone familiar with Gloom knows that nothing good will happen to your family in this game, and that is also true in Fairy Tale Gloom. Using the base mechanic of playing misfortunes on your own family and boons on your opponents', Fairy Tale Gloom adds characters and events from all of your favorite fairy tales. Most fairy tales don't end so well for the characters, so it's entirely possible that your grandmother will be eaten by a wolf and Rapunzel will be turned into a toad by the end of the game. Great on its own or played with other sets, this game is worth a try if you enjoy the darker side of fairy tales.

We have many new Puzzles in stock this week. We have the Atom, Molecule, Cell, and Particle Lab Test Puzzles. If you want something smaller, we also have metal Puzzling Professors' Puzzles. Morph's Egg is another cool puzzle that just arrived, and it's been a toughie! Similar to a Rubik's Cube, you must twist and turn the pieces until they form an egg. The only problem is that with no colors to guide you, you'll have to solve using only the curves of the shape to guide you.

New Demos: The Atom, Molecule, Cell, and Particle Lab Test Puzzles, Morph's Egg, Fool's Gold, Spot It America, Doodle Quest.

New Arrivals 6/16/2014 to 6/22/2014

by Alexander "Penguin Pistol" Smith

Pingo Pingo is a fast-paced game of grabbing treasure, avoiding danger, and shooting space penguins with a dart gun. This game comes with a soundtrack that will play as you explore this island, and you'll have to listen in because certain actions are limited by the music. You'll have to be quick to grab the treasure, but too many mistakes will leave you damaged and unable to haul back your loot. If you're looking for a very active game, Pingo Pingo is sure to please!

Touted as Ireland's royal boardgame, Tara is a tile-placement game where you are trying to create Celtic knots. With three games in one, you'll place down rings and connect them to form knots representing kingdoms or perhaps to create the largest number of separate loops. Strategic as it is beautiful, this game is certainly worth a try if you're looking for a good two-player abstract strategy game.

Boss Monster 2: The Next Level is a standalone expansion for classic videogame inspired card game, Boss Monster. Players will give each other tokens in order to perform an action meaning that you might be able to chain consecutive actions. Fast-paced and enjoyable, Diner will leave you hungry for more.

Let me just say this; the Aerozipp Disk is AWESOME. Part frisbee, part human catapult, this is a great outdoor activity. Send the flexible disc whizzing for your friends to catch or play some disc golf.

Looking to amp up your game of wiffle ball? The Batapult is a fun way to speed up your swing by using a hinging bat that flips forward as you swing. Easy to use and fun to hit with, this sturdy plastic bat and soft foam ball make games at the park a home run!

Penny Drop is a great wooden, bar game where players try to get rid of pennies by rolling a die and placing their penny in the numbered slots. After you've placed your penny, you can press your luck and roll again to get rid of more, but if you roll the number of a slot that is already filled, you'll have to take back all the coins in the slots. The number six slot can never be filled because it drops the penny into the box, so even if your opponent has left you with five filled slots, you'll always have a chance.

Witness is a cooperative game of sharing information in order to solve various crime scenarios. Each player is given one piece of information regarding the scenario, and each round they share that information with a fellow investigator. By the end of all the rounds, each player should have enough information to deduce the solution...if they can keep all their information in order. Illustrated with the charming aesthetic of the 1940's Blake and Mortimer comics by Edgar P. Jacobs, these quick four-person mysteries are perfect for aspiring gumshoes.

Spyfall is the long-awaited game of blending in and being purposefully obtuse in order to not give away too much information to the spy amongst your ranks. Each player is given a card with a location and a job... except the spy who will have to listen to others and speak generally until they end the round and guess where they are. Other players can also end the game and try to correctly guess who the spy is. Great for parties, Spyfall will have you catching shifty glances as you try read the room.

Hot off the presses it's Extra! Extra! In Extra! Extra! you'll send out journalists to find stories and pictures to fill your publication. Interview, typeset, find new stories and fill your paper with advertisements and classified ads. Nothing is more satisfying than filling your paper in a tetris-like fashion, and when all of your stories are topical for your type of publication, it's all the sweeter.

In Bring Out Yer Dead, you're on the hunt for premium grave sites for your fabulously wealthy family members who have passed away leaving you with an enormous fortune...but only if they're interred in the best places. Other would-be heirs are also in a similar situation, and there aren't enough plots for all of the ex-fabulously wealthy leaving you no choice but to desecrate tombs and send corpses down the river to open up space. Grim humor meets area control in this strategic grave robbing game.

Chronicles is a trick-taking game by famous Love Letter designer, Seiji Kanai. Add allies to your side in order to gain fame and go down in the chronicle of history. Certain cards will affect cards of different factions, so disrupting your opponents by punishing their faction can be rewarding. by Alexander "Annoying Psychic" Smith

Armadöra is a game all about controlling several caches of dwarven gold, but in order to do so you must enlist the help of warriors, mages, orcs, elves and goblins! Each piece has a special action it can use to help you secure the precious gold, but because you lay them face-down, you'll have a hard time guessing if your opponents have an area locked up or if it's just a bluff.

Dragon Run is a press-your-luck game where you and your friends have successfully looted the dragon's hoard...almost. You still have to get out of there, and with a dragon hot on your heels, that's no easy task. Leverage your innate abilities to steal from others, make others discard or heal allies to walk out with more treasure than anyone else. Will you sneak out quietly, make a mad dash, give up some treasure or throw your friends to the dragon in order to escape?

The witching hour is here and it's up to us to trap poltergeists before they escape in Ghost Blaster! Players cooperate to find matching sets of ghosts in order to trap them, but the castle is filled with traps that could send unwary ghost hunters to the dungeon. Players can free their comrades, but in a race against the clock, you'll have to find the time to do so. Ghost Blaster is a fun cooperative dice game that is sure to have you coming back for more.

Super Genius Addition does for math what Spot It! did for matching pictures, and that's awesome. Players take cards from the equation deck and try to find the solution on a result card. Between any equation card and result cards, there is always exactly one correct answer. If you can find your combinations the fastest, you win! Like Spot It!, there are many ways to play. This is certainly a great way to practice your math skills. We also received Super Genius Multiplication and two variations for reading. These are perfect for avoiding summer brain drain!
