Guild of Heroes Report for 8/25

Guild of Heroes Adventures 8/25/18

The Guilds adventures continue across the isle of Niln! Here are some of the adventures they undertook this month...

Morning - Roots-upon-Granite with Dungeon Master Camilla

Word had come to the Guild that people were starting to evacuate the nearby town of Sparkwin’s Hill. A mysterious cloud of mist had been drifting towards town, and the residents were getting spooked! Six heroes set off from the Guild: Toki Blackburn, Nova, Sound of Fire, Charsmen Woodsmith, Azul Ragnarok, and Mystery. While Toki and Charsmen did recon at the market in Sparkwin’s Hill, the other adventurers investigated the mist by many means. They climbed trees, dipped their toes, and even volunteered one of their horses to see what lay within.

The six heroes regrouped to head inside, not forgetting a safety rope in case they encountered the worst. Inside was a strange scene, with dancing trees and shrubs entertaining an ancient dryad, Neivana of the North Wind. He explained that he had returned to find his friend, a tree named Roots-upon-Granite. The skyscraping tamarack tree was said to be found where the bustling market had been earlier that day.

The party’s research led them to the tomb of a wizard named Zadelrazz. Hundreds of years ago, he had chopped down the tree to use in spellcraft. The party smashed the stone golems that they found defending his tomb and presented the seeds that he had stored within. Almost against hope, they were sufficient to avert Neivana’s interest in the hilltop, and his wandering path turned elsewhere.

Morning - The Reliquary of Baird of Korin with Dungeon Master Matt

The noble adventurers of the Guild of Heroes set out to the town of Korin to resolve a dispute over an ancient reliquary, discovered in the town mine. They were immediately hindered by a series of traps and defenses set up as part of the civil war that had broken out within city limits, but bypassed a pit trap and portcullis to gain access to the war-torn Korin. Within, they met a few warring factions, explored the city, and determined that this reliquary could grant one wish to any who were “pure of heart”.

After a lengthy search for our heroes and a battle for the reliquary, aided many times by Draw’s thaumaturgy, the heroes were forced to defeat the town’s elder and took the reliquary back to the Guild for safe-keeping.

Afternoon - Bleurkh the Furious with Dungeon Master Camilla

“Pay tribute, or be attacked by our tamed giant!” This was the word going round from the village of Thokville. No one knew where they got it. The Guild of Heroes had no chance but to look closer. Six heroes stepped up to the task: Portia Rang, Cora Thorngage, Zara, Orryn, Sauron, and Ancestra Warriorheart. Very quickly they encountered a large path smashed through the forest, broken trees and bare footprints. This led them to Ibzig, the only goblin to have survived a night-time attack on their now-ruined encampment. The party saved his life with healing magic, gaining a companion in the process.

The footprints led onwards, growing in size as they approached the village of Thokville. The village sported new features: a huge building in its center and tall wooden walls, all made of snapped off tree trunks, some of them gargantuan in size. It didn’t take much to infiltrate, a sleep spell and a tasty bribe did the trick. Within the “temple” at the center of town was the apparent giant, a vastly oversized goblin! Her name was Bleurkh, and each time her “worshippers” bullied her into anger, she got bigger! Ibzig told her that she came from the same Goblin tribe, where she had been the target of incessant teasing and bullying. It wasn’t clear which would break first: the roof or her spirits.

Hoping to lay waste to the extortionist little town, the party joined in, repeating mean words that Ibzig told them. It didn’t take them long to realize how they were making Bleurkh feel, and they had a change of heart. They chose to stand up for her against bullying, including the efforts of a party of orc raiders that chose to attack at that coincidental moment! They scattered the attacking bandits with little difficulty, a cherry on top of their successful efforts to lift Bleurkh’s spirits. The heroes helped find the potion that would return her to a normal, diminutive size, and the day was saved.

Afternoon - Trouble at Feymead Brewery with Dungeon Master Matt

Our intrepid adventurers, Paelias, Akida, Thor, Silas, and Ancalagon, having heard of disappearances and rampaging monsters in the Sapwood Forest, promptly set forth to save the day. They followed a path of destruction to the Feymead Brewery, where they met a wood elf named Aselivan. He was a brewer who made and sold moonlight-infused birch beer to the faeries of the forest. It quickly became clear, however, that he was up to no good, and Akida snuck back onto the brewery grounds that night to disable the moon gem that Aselivan was using to fuel the process.

As the sun set and the moon rose, fae across the forest who had consumed the moon-drinks began to transform into otherworldly beasts and descend upon the brewery. Paelias and the others set upon some of the creatures to hold them off as Akida held off the now-monstrous Aselivan on his own - until, at last, the full party reached the estate and was able to destroy the moon-gem, freeing the forest from its curse.

What is the Guild of Heroes? When can I play?

The Guild of Heroes is a group of adventurers aged 10 to 15 who join us regularly for our ongoing campaign of the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop roleplaying game. They go on quests to defend their homeland (the Isles of Niln) and protect those who cannot protect themselves through their fantasy realm.

As the Guild faces new challenges at home on Niln, how will they manage the War of the Giants and the other arcane threats that plague the world? There's only one way to find out! Sign up now for next month's Guild of Heroes adventures now (or hop on the waitlist, once we fill up) for Saturday Morning, September 15th or Saturday Afternoon, September 15th. We hope to see you there!

What's New at Labyrinth: 8/17/18

Scythe: The Rise of Fenris

After much anticipation, the third and final expansion for the blockbuster hit game Scythe has arrived. The Rise of Fenris adds a gigantic, 8-game campaign to conclude the story of Scythe. While this campaign does have secrets to unlock and persistent elements, unlike a legacy game, it is fully re-settable and replayable. And once you've played the campaign--or decided you don't care to--the 11 modules in Rise of Fenris can be added in whatever combination you like to modify your game of Scythe. And don't let the previous expansions scare you away--they are entirely optional to play Rise of Fenris. This is expansion isn't one to miss!

Blue Lagoon
Blue Lagoon is a game of natural beauty and exploration. Players take on the roles of Polynesian tribes settling the islands surrounding a Blue Lagoon paradise. The game has two phases: first, an anarchic free-for all where you can settle anywhere on the lagoon's coast, and the second when society has stabilized and you can only expand existing villages. The player who collects the most valuable resources wins!

Boss Monster: Rise of the Minibosses
Rise of the Minibosses is the second stand-alone expansion for Boss Monster. The major gameplay innovation in this edition are the tantalizing Minibosses, which add a whole new level of dungeon customization. There are also new bosses, rooms, spells and more! A wonderful way to try out this game for the first time, or to expand an existing set.

Arkham Horror LCG: Heart of the Elders
The third Mythos Pack in the Forgotten Age cycle, Heart of the Elders sees your investigators return to the jungles of South America and seek out the mouth of a vast and ancient cave lost to time. Six pillars with strange inscriptions flank the pit: Are they a warning, or a lock? You must balance your investigation against your dwindling supplies, and then brave the light devoid world below. Dangers that you have awoken now threaten everything you hold dear. To set right your wrongs you must brave the dangers beneath the jungle.

Age of Rebellion: Cyphers and Masks
The latest class sourcebook for the Age of Rebellion RPG, Cyphers and Masks, focuses on the Spy. Adding new Careers, tools, and tips on how to play as, or run for Spy characters; the book adds depth to the secret war-behind-the-war waged between the spies of the Empire and Rebel Alliance.

Lord of the Rings LCG: The Withered Heath

Fight the cold and press onward--the lives of thousands demand your success.

Chill Out!
Chill Out! is a colorful game of dexterity, dice and drinks for all ages. Players roll their dice to determine the number and color of their drink, then drop ice cubes down toward the board, aiming to fill their cups! But watch out--everyone else is going to be gunning for your cubes as well! An uproarious game for the whole family.

We also restocked on boosters--every set still in Standard rotation is back! Come and see!

And that's all for this week. Check back next week for another edition of What's New at Labyrinth!

What's New at Labyrinth: 8/11/18

 What's New at Labyrinth: 8/11/18
Hey there, everyone! This week's got a huge amount of new stuff, so let's skip the preamble and jump right in:

The Rise of Queensdale
Rise of Queensdale is a brand-new legacy-style worker placement game from Ravensburger. Over the course of the campaign, players draft dice and shape the new province of Queensdale into a place worthy of its royal namesake. For the builder in you, Queensdale is an excellent pick.

The Legend of the Cherry Tree
More formally, The Legend of the Cherry Tree that Blossoms Every Ten Years. In this beautiful game of set collection, the players race to collect the blossoms of the mystical tree before they hit the ground. The one that collects the most will have their wish granted by the tree--but beware. Greed is unbecoming of a wish-seeker, and if you push your luck too far the tree will deem you unworthy!

Nimble is a real-time game of quick eyes and quicker hands. Players race through the world of classical fairy tales, competing to empty their hand first. Each card consists of two colors-a frame and a center--and you can only play a card on top of an existing card whose center matches your frame. Simple in writing, chaotic in practice! Nimble is an excellent icebreaker or party game.

Detective is a unique take on the cooperative mystery game genre. Consisting of 5 cases that must be solved in order, players do not play as a detective, they ARE a detective. You're expected to use every resource at your disposal, from metaknowledge to Google, to solve these cases. If you're an inquisitive soul looking for something new, Detective is the game for you.

Competitive Kitchen
Competitive Kitchen is a new party game tailored to fans of cooking shows like Iron Chef. Players take turn being judges, who reveal secret ingredients, while everyone else must somehow combine their absurd ingredients into an appetizing meal. May the best chef win!

Blood Rage
Blood Rage is one of the most highly rated games of the last decade. This strategy game places players in control of Viking clans during Ragnarok, and it's the last chance to earn glory and secure your place in Valhalla! Battle for dominance as the world burns, as only the truly glorious can live forever by Odin's side.

Tiny Epic Galaxies
Back after months away is Tiny Epic Galaxies! Mighty, interstellar empires clash in this one teeny-tiny box. Roll your dice to decide your actions, and strategically order your turns to maximize your gains. But beware; if your opponents are willing to spend the resources, they can interrupt your turn! Only the mightiest tiny tyrant may rule the galaxy.

Tumball is a dexterity game with an interesting setup. Players must carefully stack their white beads atop a larger cluster of beads, suspended by wires. Too much weight and the cluster will give way, so watch out and place carefully.

Pathfinder: Playtest
Paizo's Pathfinder RPG has dominated a huge chunk of the market for nearly a decade now. Now, the next step has arrived, the Pathfinder Playtest, the first book of playtest material for the still-in-development Second Edition. If you want to be part of shaping this franchise, pick up the playtest and make your thoughts known!

The Faithful: New Beginnings
The Faithful is an expansion for Guild Ball, a tactical miniatures game of fantasy medieval soccer! This pack contains 6 gorgeous metal miniatures and the associated rules and cards; all you need to field a full team of Guild Ball players!

Warsaw: City of Ruins First Edition (AKA: Capital)
Warsaw: City of Ruins is an incredible game of history and tragedy. Players work as architects, each constructing a district of Warsaw throughout its history. War and disaster will come to raze your district, and you will rebuild--forming a patchwork of past and present. We should be getting the second edition with the updated title sometime soon, but in the meantime, check out this game--it's not to be missed.

Legend of the Five Rings Roleplaying
One of two new arrivals to our RPG shelf is the Legend of the Five Rings RPG Beginner Game. Rokugan has been the seat of countless campaigns since the RPG first came out in the 90s, and now that the card game has returned, it's never been a better time to adventure in the Emerald Empire. Try out the Beginner Game and see!

Delta Green
The second RPG we've gotten in this week, Delta Green takes your X-Files fantasy and takes it up to 11. Using the same d100 system of Call of Cthulhu, Delta Green takes the Lovecraftian world of dark cults and dead gods and moves it to the modern day, where the overworked, under-budget government agency Delta Green holds the line between sanity and madness at a steep cost. Step into the shadows where dark things dwell with Delta Green.

Trivial Pursuit: Harry Potter
If you're a die-hard Potterhead then this is the game for you. With a mind-boggling 1,800 questions, this will test the limits of even the most devoted fan's knowledge. The perfect trivia game for a geeky gathering!

Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small
Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small is a two-player edition of the much larger Agricola. This smaller, streamlined game focuses on the raising of animals, while maintaining the strategic gameplay of its bigger cousin. Purchase and raise livestock, expand your farm, and become the wealthiest farmer in your district through wise and careful management of your holdings.

Paper Tales
Paper Tales is a card-drafting game about heroics and the ravages of time. Played out over the course of two centuries in a fantasy world, players draft heroes and villains to represent them in the struggle. But age bows to no one, and your cards will age, and inevitably vanish, beneath the inexorable flow of time. An innovative new game that's worth a look.

Game of Thrones: Streets of King's Landing
Streets of King's Landing immerses the player in the growing corruption seeping throughout Westeros, expanding upon the ever-popular Shadow keyword. Lay traps, spin plots, and keep your head above water: after all, in the game of thrones, you win or you die.

Pokemon Celestial Storm Theme Decks
Finally, we've gotten a ton of Pokemon in. The new Celestial Storm Theme Decks, starring Sceptile and Swampert, have arrived, bringing a unique flair to the new set. In addition, we've gotten restocks of the Burning Shadows and Crimson Invasion theme decks as well as more Crimson Invasion booster packs. Come take a look!

Phew! That's a lot of announcements. Check back next week for more here at What's New at Labyrinth!
